Shelby Fischer is a mixed media artist living in Central Virginia. Her work is beautifully realised, laborious in its detail and subtle in its colorings. ‘My mixed media collages and assemblages blend surrealism with otherworldly imagery’, she says. ‘Each work is a fragment of an intuitive story — odd and mysterious narratives that are familiar echoes of a long lost, often twisted fantasy or nightmare’.
If fashion is about expression, what statement a person wearing a blimp handbag or an owl shaped purse is trying to make?
These eccentric bags were created by italian designer Carla Braccialini whose motto is ‘To create handbags as an absolute beauty concept without fear of daring, to be exclusive and bring to women the desire to play with fashion, escape banality.’
Even if they might be a bit too quirky and not exactly practical, they are definitely very unique and interesting pieces to look at.
Alex Trochut continues to inspire with a set of new T-Shirts for “The Humans Are Dead” collection for Sixpack. The T-Shirts were made with white ink with an additional layer of glow in the dark ink. For more on this collection you know the

Rodchenko Piece:
For the spring shopping season Sax Fifth Avenue presents these shopping bags complete with constructivist styled graphics and typography reminiscent of Rodchenko, a well-known graphic designer and photographer of his time.
Yes, the graphics are dynamic and well-designed by one of our favorites “Shepard Fairey”. But we have to question the appropriateness given the high-end nature of Saks Fifth Avenue. Irony or pretentiousness? You decide.
“Some people might think it could be making fun of what’s going on right now,” Mr. Fairey said. “But I think most people are sophisticated enough to realize it’s a way of grabbing attention. It’s commerce. I don’t think there is really any political statement embedded in this.”
Really strange and interesting figural sculptures from the mind of artist Julie Tremblay, all constructed from varying materials. Amazing attention to form considering the difficult materials with which she works.

The Little Friends of Printmaking are a husband-and-wife team of silkscreen artists living and working since 2003 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
They are best known for the interplay of layers in their prints, and a playful looseness that leads the viewer to consider the process by which the image was created.

Well, the last and final big design news of the day is that Alex Trochut has once again updated his portfolio with exceptional design and typography work. I highly doubt I will be neither the first or last to mention this to you this week.
Wow, I am just utterly blown away by the talent of Brazilian designer/illustrator Nelson Balaban. Just amazing. Everything he creates is a work of art. It is like he is somehow hard-wired to artfully meld design and illustration in ways that you have to not only appreciate but respect. He is younger than I was I think before I even started working in the design and advertising field and I just cannot believe the things he produces. Stunning.
Oh and he has also just updated his website, Xtrabold with new and needless to say, unbelievably beautiful work.
So I finally went through my spam folder in my email account, I only had like 1000 spam messages. While going through it, somewhere between my winning the a 1 billion dollar prize from Google & someone from China asking me to get into business with them, I found a great link to Sergey Dollov's portfolio. Sergey Dollov is a 27 year old graphic designer from Moscow, Russia, who works with a lot of web and multimedia design, but he also has some great graphic design work. Check out one more of his pieces below.

To bring some attention to ocean pollution and just how disgusting it really is, Surfrider Foundation teamed up with Satchi & Satchi LA to create “Catch of the Day.” Simply and brilliantly, they collected actual trash from beaches around the U.S., packaged it like food, and left it on display at farmer’s markets. It’s site-specific, appropriate, impacting, meaningful, shocking, and an actual consumer insight into the very act they’re in the middle of. Someone about to buy fish from the same ocean as the trash in their hands can’t help but be at least a little more enlightened as to how pollution isn’t someone else’s problem.
We humans are such great stewards of the Earth, eh??
