F+ Never – Coarse Toys Custom “Thunderhead Drallian Slayer”

Wow! Josh Pearce aka F+ Never gave us the heads up about a new commission that he’s just finished!
“I call this guy “Thunderhead Drallian Slayer” A warrior enchanted with the lightning powers of the Thunderhead breed of Drallian.”
New awesome customs and goodies have recently been added to the F+ Never store so go check them out! Unless you’ve already got Josh working on something for you, the store may be the only way to grab one of his customs because he’s fully booked!
The detail on this piece is stunning and the quality is to an extremely high standard, I’m really looking forward to seeing more from Josh! Get yourself over to the F+ Never blog and check out some of the other customs, especially the recent Mega Munny commission!

Bitbots Jinny – JamFactory Custom – General Ruffles III

For those that didn’t know, we have recently set up a Vinyl Abuse Flickr Group for everyone to share their photos!
The other day JamFactory aka Gavin Strange dropped this photo of his awesome Jinny custom which will be appearing at the launch event in London!
“Jats Gill, the man behind the UK’s newest vinyl toy company ‘Bitbots‘ asked me if I’d be part of the launch event of their first toy ‘Jinny’ by customizing a blank version for the show! It’s been a while since I’ve customized a toy but I gave it a shot! As I always tend to do with customs, I have a thing for pulling the head off and turning it upside down – I’m glad I did, as it made me think of a bird of prey, with it’s beak poking out.
I got out the milliput and sculpted a ‘lip’ around the bottom of the head, so it looked like a military helmet with the beak poking out as well as smoothing over the top where the hole was and voila, it was ready to sand down and paint.
Using a nice chrome for the helmet and a olive green for the body, all that was left was to try my hand at dry-brushing, giving the helmet and body a bit of a rusted feel! And voila, what you see above is the finished thing, I call him “General Ruffles III”. You can check out what the original looks like here.

Bitbots Jinny – “Robot” and “Eyes” Latest News

The latest from the guys at Bitbots just arrived and we get to see the first images of some of the new designs! Here we get introduced to “Robot” and “Eyes“, not sure who these designs are by yet but they look wicked! Wonder what the other designs are like, hmmm I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

Vivid Plastic Presents: The Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show

As featured on the KidRobot Kronikle blog, The Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show opened last Saturday to a packed crowd from 4:30pm-9:00pm at Square Records Gallery in Akron, OH. This custom show marks the first annual event organized by Vivid Plastic : Designer Toy Store. The crowd was a good mix of lowbrow art enthusiasts, toy collectors, and locals from the eclectic Highland Square neighborhood.
Over 30 custom pieces are on display with Akron’s top artists: Julia Bunn, Jeff Lamm, Jamie Suvak, Joshua Davis, Kate Budd, Charlie Wagers, and Jaron Tager. As a special surprise, Vivid Plastic invited graffiti artist Sh!t Heap of San Francisco showing his “Cloudy with a Chance of Rad” custom. The blend of Akron based tattoo artists, graffiti artists, illustrators, and lowbrow painters made for a visually stunning exhibition.

ESC Toys – Skratch Purple Claws!

Recently Skratch grew tired of her job stacking boxes at a local toy shop. She was underpaid, cranky and hated the fact that she didn’t get any freebies. Her big mouth boss made her job harder by telling her that if she worked a little bit harder, she would be awarded with the title “Employee of the Month”. Skratch couldn’t care less for the title. Every month that title went to a lazy Purpolo Papa Sama that was favored by the boss for some mysterious reason, but that’s another story.
One day a large box fell on Skratch’s head due to the Purpolo Papa Sama’s neglect. She couldn’t take it anymore and she decided to quit. Her boss asked “where are you going to find a better job in this economy? Besides you’re a purple puss with no boots. Who would hire you?”. That “purple puss” comment drove her over the edge as she popped her claws out and went after her boss. The chase came to a halt when they noticed an ice cream covered mouse opening an ice cream store across the street. It was lunch time.
The ESC Toy, Skratch Purple Claws colorway is limited to only 25pcs worldwide.

The newest release at Funkrush!
I hear you asking, “What is this I see before me? Playing cards, or 54 little pieces of art?”
(Ok, so they borrowed the same pitch as their first deck!)
But this is another beautiful deck, lovingly created by over 30 artists of the Black Rock Collective.
The feel, overall brilliantly printed card size and box design are the same as the first deck. As is the varied styles (and nationalities) of the BRC. The Unlimited Twins are a pair of Oakor who do everything to it’s unlimited non limit. You want unlimited backflips? they can do it, you want unlimited toast? they can easily do that, and how about unlimited cheese? that is NO problem for these two. They are so famed around the world, they are now filmed 24/7 by their own production company Unlimited Industries©, and have both been assigned a Pressbot who never leaves their side.
These bots have exclusive access and carry around their own press passes so people know exactly who they are. Keep an eye out for the twins upcoming show ‘Unlimitedness’ coming soon to a holographic non 3d tv platform near you.
Each packages comes with one Unlimited Twin, one Pressbot, a Pressbot press pass, and a bunch of cut vinyl stickers with application tape pre applied so you can stick them wherever you like

Pào & the balloon exhibition

Pào is a wedge head carrot with a bad attitude. His background is dubious, even he doubts his own existence. One day, Pào finds that a balloon has grown behind his head. Pào doesn’t know it, but this marks the start of a change which is to affect him… in a way.
Dorcas Ng aka P à o will be presenting Pào & the balloon @ Dreams London.
Dreams London 2010 is a group exhibition of 50 young designers and artists from 15 different countries, sharing the same dream to set up an exhibition, showing London how passion and belief can make something amazing happen. Innovative, interesting, mysterious and fun ideas involving 20+ different types of creativities, Dreams Exhibition provides a stage for these young creators to show their talent.

Toy2R – 7″ Domo Qee

Toy2R and Dark Horse are proud to announce the release of the newly designed Domo 7 Inch Qee. Originally displayed during Toy Fair in February and making an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, these larger versions have attracted serious attention from Domo collectors around the globe. Limited to only 500 units of each design and with a SRP of $59.99, Domo will be making a dash, so fans had better act quick!
The first available versions will include the Wood Grain edition as well as the Glow In The Dark version. Followed by more eerie mayhem – the Skeleton Edition will pop out as well as the party themed Glitter Edition – all making their debut next month and available from Dark Horse.

The 3.5″ doll is included with purchase of a VIP ticket to Monster Massive and can be picked up at a will-call booth at the event or from Boutique Muzique in Studio City, CA starting September 24th.
Designed by Frank Kozik, this unique black “Bloody Bear” features Kozik’s signature touches and has a dark Halloween feel to it. The 13th annual edition of Monster Massive will take place on Saturday October 23rd, 2010 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, Grounds & Expo Park.
This Halloween themed music festival draws over 60,000 dance music diehards and this year features Moby, Carl Cox, John Digweed + much more.

Following the recent trend of homegrown UK awesomeness here we have these little plush beauties! CAVEYS!
From the mind of Londener Holly Stanway comes some of the best plush toys I’ve seen in a while. These are not your “run of the mill” assembly line toys, each one is hand made to a very high standard!

After the recent success of the Limited Edition SDCC Exclusive “Super Duper Caped Cavey“ we’re going to get treated to 2 new designs, the Unicorn and the Ninja! Both look like they are going to be fantastic and hopefully we’ll manage to grab one of them for a hands on view!

Squink! – Mystical Fragments Exhibition Opening August 7th – 27th 2010 at Ik’Sentrik, Bath

This Saturday (7th August, 5:00 – 7:00pm) marks the opening of the Mystical Fragments exhibition, a big display of vinyl toys, canvas paintings, framed drawings and more from the super talented UK designer who goes by the name of Squink!
The event is being help at the designer toy and art gallery Ik’Sentrik in Bath. Check out the sneaky peak that Squink! sent over of what will be appearing at the show!
Everything on display at the exhibit will be for sale! This is a great opportunity to get yourself a piece (or 2) of Squinks awesome work! Anything that doesn’t get sold will be going onto his online store shortly after the show, so for all you guys who won’t be able to make it (like me), there may be hope for you yet! Don’t hold your breathe though, considering how fast his recent customs have sold, I’m pretty sure this stuff isn’t gonna be sticking around for long!
