Supro Design has presented new candle holder made of concrete. Candle holders are working both sides for thick and thin candles and thanks to its weight candle holders are stackable too.

This autumn was finally open the new centre for contemporary art DOX in Holešovice. Beautiful white minimalistic building by architekt Ivan Kroupa consists a lot of exhibition spaces, roof teracess, café, bookshop and designshop as well.
In spectacular space above the big modernist ramp we find designshop DOX by Qubus. It was established under the curatorial aproach of Jakub Berdych and Maxim Velčovský from studio Qubus. Unique store a selection of the best czech porcelain and glass design, such as names like Bořek Šípek, František Vízner, Rony Plesl, Whitefruits or conceptual pieces by Qubus as well. Also on display there are jewells by Eva Eisler, František Dvořák, Karel Opočenský and other.
This luxury goods is also by funny or classic czech products. Iron toys by Kovap, pen „Versatilka“ or fourcolor pen can become a nice present for every visitor from this art gallery.
Concept store DOX by Qubus offers selection of traditional and best czech design in new, unconventional way.
AAKK FOREVER - graphic and product design studio from Prague (Adam Turecek and Kristina Ambrozova) showed works at SUPERMARKET’08 Designfest mid December.
If you are in trouble finding Christmas presents for your beloved ones, and like unusual surprises don’t hesitate to visit the WAMP Budapest on 21st December. More than 170 Hungarian designers and artists will be present to showcase their design products and deluge visitors with fashion, jewelry, ceramic ware to glassware goods. There will also be a large selection of design books, if you are after the intellectual part of design. Dj Nizar from Tilos Radio will be responsible for the atmosphere on 21st.

Tereza Pízova and Ivona Nováková prepared some new and fresh stuff directly for this year´s Supermarket. Limited collection of NAJS T-shirts links to the mosaic principle used in their furniture design (presented at Designblok this year). They combine glossy, mat and suede materials, different colors and motives. NAJS porcelain jewel sets Industrial Glamour (nuts) and Let´s play (lego) were completed with necklaces, rings and new types of ear-rings. Let’s have a look.

From Friday 12th December to Sunday 14th December Supermarket designfest took place in old city Prague in Renaissance house U Voříkovských, Liliová 5. The place is stunning, concept of presentations were build on cardboard boxes which was very variable solution. Designers could play with space very well and show their works in best light. Lets have a first impression on the show.
We will deliver detailed reports on the most interesting products and presentations.
Designers are speaking about their work showed at SEZONA 08 - idylka. One thing: All of then speaking in Czech language but still you can see their works in this video. So enjoy!

The DECT Forum, the worldwide association of the home communication industry announced the winners of the International CAT-iq Student Design Competition. CAT-iq Design Competition 2008 inspired design students from all over the world to create out of the box products and exciting services for the next generation of home communication.

A Touch of Praha was an exhibition of contemporary Czech design, representing Praha, the capital of the Czech Republic.
Czech design production has gone a long way towards development, from all important Czech creators we can name Josef Gočár (design and architecture in Cubistic style), Ladislav Sutnar (an important Czech designer of the 20th century), Zdeněk Kovář (an industrial designer whose footprints are followed by many other creators).
Czech designers like to work in traditional Czech companies where traditional creation processes are still being used, however, unfortunately more and more factories cease to exist, especially textile and glass ones due to cheap competitors. Still the production in glass and porcelain is the most famous in the world.
The exhibition presents Czech product design, manufactured products, and jewelery from young Czech designers.
The exhibition A Touch of Praha is a small excursion into contemporary production of Czech designers. To depict the context and circumstances in which the Czech design is being born, it is necessary to introduce Praha, the capital of the Czech Republic, where the majority of Czech designers works and have studied, gained experience, met their colleagues and found inspiration. There is no Czech designer whose production would not be inspired by Touch of Praha.

Intel and Asus (in Czech Republic) decided to organize competition for students to design Mobile Internet Devices - MID in order to inspire manufactures for new future development of this devices. Make your own opinion on if this aim was fulfilled. I think it is good intention and quality will grow in the future I’m sure about it. This year I didn’t see many innovative solutions. All off then were pretty much the same and were following the way of how mobile phones are constructed today.
What would be really fine for next edition of this competition is to have prototypes or at least mockups for winners (or give the winners opportunity build their mockups themselves with using prototype technologies in order to gain experience in this field, which would be quite handy for them) . So maybe collaboration with prototyping house would be benefit.

Traffic light radical redesign? why not! We have a lot of possibilities to arrange shapes of lights now with super bright light emitting diodes. Art Lebedev Studio has took this chance and designed great looking and functional traffic light which can be fitted to any place around the globe and will not change face of the cities too much.

Perfect solution to increase pedestrian safety. New concept for crosswalks from Art Lebedev Studio.
This is very smart solution as during the night this crosswalks becomes dangerous places especially out of the city. Idea is to have double marking with illuminated stripes put above the road. So when pedestrians crossing the road is more visible for drivers. Also such a crosswalk mark will be seen for far away and indicate to driver that he should slow down.
First Air Crosswalks will appear in 2009 in Tumen, Russia, where this project got approved by the local road police department.
